How To Deal With Another Persons Insurance
Accidents are always a hassle, but when the
accident wasn't your fault, it can be especially difficult dealing with
another persons insurer. Here are a few tips to help you with dealing with
the other guys insurance company.
Call The Insurance Companies
Many times, your insurance company will handle
most of the work for you so the first thing you should do is contact them.
If you have trouble with the other parties insurer, you also might need
their help in the future.
Next contact the at fault parties insurance. Give them all of the
information that you have on the accident. Hopefully the other party will
have already contacted them but chances are that they won't have. Remain
calm and be nice, they aren't going to take your word that the accident
wasn't your fault. They will want to look at all the facts and make that
decision themselves.
Getting Your Vehicle Fixed
It would be a good idea for you to wait on
approval from the other persons insurance before getting your vehicle
fixed. You will have less trouble getting reimbursed if the adjuster
approves all work done. Remember that you are not required to use the shop
that the insurer wants you to use. You can use any shop you like. If the
insurance company drags their feet, you may want to call your insurer for
help or even call your states board of insurance.
If your insurer allows it, you could instead file a claim under your own
policy. You will have to pay your deductible but will be reimbursed after
your insurer collects from the other drivers insurance.
