Don't Be A Victim Of Insurance Fraud
In order to protect yourself from insurance
fraud, consumers need to make themselves aware of the scams that are out
there. Insurance fraud is a big problem and can cause your insurance rates
to skyrocket or leave you injured. Below you will see two of the most
common types of insurance fraud and some tips on how to not be a victim.
Extra Damage To The Vehicle
One type of insurance fraud happens when after
an accident, one of the parties claims that their vehicle sustained more
damage that i actually did. They might claim that preexisting damage was
caused by the accident or they might even damage the vehicle themselves to
get a bigger claim.
Consumers can protect themselves from this type of fraud by taking
pictures of all of the vehicles involved in an accident. Keep a digital
camera or a cheap disposable camera in your vehicle at all times.
You could also use a camera phone if you own one.
Fake Accidents
In this type of fraud, a vehicle will usually
cut in front of you and then slam on their brakes. Since you rear ended
them, insurance companies will probably consider you at fault. They will
often claim fake medical injuries as well in this instance.
This type of fraud is a little harder to avoid. Drivers should stay aware
of their surroundings and keep a safe following distance from the vehicle
in front of them. |
