Flood Vehicles
It never fails. After a major disaster like a
hurricane or flood their will be a wave of flood vehicles saturating the
market. These vehicles may seem okay but they are prone to a number of
future problems such as electrical problems and early mechanical failures.
But how can you protect yourself from buying one or these vehicles. Read
on to find tips on identifying a flood car.
Physical signs of a flood vehicle
Odor
A vehicle that has been flooded will often have a musty odor when all of
the windows are up. This can be overcome if the seller replaces the carpet
however.
Moisture
Check the cars headlights, and gauges. Look and see if their is any
moisture trapped behind the glass. This moisture can be hard to remove so
this may be an indication of a flood vehicle,
Rust
All cars rust over time. Look for rust in unusual places like interior
metal trim or on seatbelts or in the interior area of the trunk. If
possible, pull the carpet back and look for rust on the floorboards.
Water Marks
Look closely at the upholstery. The seller may not have been able to
completely remove water stains. Look for water lines on the cars kick
panels as well.
Dirt and Debris
Look under the dash for dirt and debris. Look in the trunk, under the
carpet and in the engine bay as well.
