Avoiding Car Accidents
Auto accidents will unfortunately always
happen. Here are a few things that you can do to help keep you from
getting involved in one. Pay Attention
The biggest single thing that you can do to
avoid an accident. Get off your cell phone or get a hands free kit, stop
playing with the radio, stop applying makeup while driving. Pay attention
to driving your vehicle. Before making a lane change, check your mirrors
and look at your blind spots. Be careful when entering an intersection.
Most accidents occur at an intersection.
Maintain Your Vehicle
Poor vehicle maintenance can lead to
accidents. Have your brakes checked regularly. Replace tires when needed
to avoid a blowout. Replace bad shocks to improve your car or trucks
handling and replace wiper blades when needed so you can see during bad
weather. Slow Down
Obey the speed limit and know when to go under
it. In severe whether such as heavy rain, snow or ice go less than the
posted limit. The speed limit sign is the fastest you can drive under good
driving conditions. Following Too Close
Don't follow other vehicles too closely.
Tailgating won't get you there any faster. What it will do however is cut
your response time. It may make it impossible for you to avoid an accident
if the driver in front of you slams their brakes. Leave a 2 second gap
between you and the vehicle in front of you. To do this look at a point on
the roadway. Count the time between when they pass the point and when you
pass it. If it is less than 2 seconds, back off. |
